Doug Pierce (formerly Michael Leahy) is the killer in the Season 4 episode of Rizzoli & Isles, "Cold as Ice"
History[]
Michael Leahy married Bridget Dalton and had a son named Todd with her. Michael was being investigated for embezzlement, so he planned to disappear and start anew. He killed Bridget, who had Huntington’s disease and a life insurance policy out on her, in a staged boating accident, faking his death along with Todd’s. Michael renamed himself Doug Pierce, renaming Todd into Luke and marrying a woman named Sheila. Bridget’s sister Carla, while conducting clinical trials for Huntington’s in Rhode Island, went across the coast of the Northeastern U.S. to check out the hockey teams, as it was Luke’s favorite sport. Carla collected helmet pads to test for DNA and find a match in the hopes of reaching Luke to take him from Doug.
When Carla finally found Doug and Luke in Boston, Doug followed Carla to the parking lot and cut her throat with a skate lacer. Doug then stole Carla’s car and sank it off Pier 21, briefly leaving suspicion on aggressive hockey mom Mary Bigsby. However, Carla’s identity was revealed when her car was tracked, and Rhode Island police gave the lowdown of Doug’s crimes. Doug was positively matched in description to Michael, and the agents confronted him on his new boat while Luke and Shiela were there. The police confronted them and, despite Luke shouting for him, Doug ordered Sheila to leave and take Luke with him. Doug was arrested and incarcerated for his crimes.
